Several boys were playing basketball in a driveway. One of the younger, smaller boys became frustrated and impatient with the older boys who could easily dunk the basketball. Finally, he walked behind the goal and proceeded to lower the goal to a height he could also dunk. There are times in our lives as Christians when standards seem to high for us to attain. Instead of being patient and disciplined until we can reach them, we just lower our standards. The lower goal did not make the younger boy a better basketball player, and neither will our lower standards bring us closer to God.
